One type of mask that was traditionally used by the Dan are sometimes called 'passport' masks, as they would serve to protect the owner when he was away from home. Alhaji Suleiman Abdullah of Ghana crafts this intepretation of a Dan mask, which is carved by hand from sese wood and then polished smooth.
