Details

The front of this cotton-blend tote from Peru depicts a yunza carnival. This is a tradition practised across all of Peru, and involves a dance with streamers tied around a tree that will be chopped down. Maria Uyauri handcrafts the tote in the style of arpillería patchwork with intricate embroidery. This handbag's body is made of cotton, featuring a tie-dyed motif in blue. A zipper pocket on the back provides handy space for storing small items. Draping over the shoulder on two straps, the tote opens with a magnetic snap to reveal a cotton lining that is decorated with archaeological Nazca line motifs. A zipper pocket on one side completes the interior.

"I fell in love with the dog on this clutch!"

The detailed and lovely work Maria did on this clutch made me fall in love with the dog she portrays, and wish I could bring it home. Her skill and imagination in doing the applique are very apparent, and I see from looking at her wall hangings that she is a very talented and extra special artist. I will be purchasing more of her special work. Thank you Maria for creating one of my very favorite things.

"A Story in Fiber"

As an amateur weaver, I appreciated how this piece told the story of wool fibers, from pasture to yarn to product. Thank you!

"After the Flood"

Not only is this a beautiful piece of artwork it also gives the opportunity to serve as a conversation piece. Telling the story of Noah and the flood is a good one to tell anyone wanting to know more about the Old Testament and Genesis...in the beginning.
