About this Item
Celestial scenes inhabit the upper composition of this altar, as figures in traditional Andean attire celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ beneath a rich, floral canopy. This form of Peruvian folk art is known as the retablo, especially characteristic of the Ayacucho region. The frame is crafted by hand from wood, while Alejandro Chávez fills the shelves with tiny ceramic characters painted to joyous perfection.

“Quintessential artistry from Peru”
This item is colorful and such a perfect example of the work we have come to love over the years from this wonderful country and its artisans. Perfect for my collection and would make a wonderful gift. Sharing the incarnation of Christ as well as a great story of this craft.

“Very colorful”
My only complaint is that the features painted on Our Ladys face are just rushed and look masculine. The cherubs facial features look angry, not angelic. Im an artist, so I can fix it, but I shouldnt have to. Otherwise, I like it.
