Mauricio Morales crafts a small ceramic bird figurine that features exquisite hand painted detailing. "The process for making these small animals was something I learned when I was small...since then it has become a passion of mine," says the Guatemalan artisan, adding that the bird sculpture is made for, "...all of those who love birds." He starts by mixing the clay and carefully shaping the figure, and then he adds aluminium legs and feet. After the bird is fired, he sands it, mixes his own colours, and paints the figurine. The result is a charming and meticulously decorated depiction of the world's smallest owl, the elf owl, complete with brownish-grey colouring, a small beak, and a striated breast.

"Beautiful workmanship"
This makes my fourth owl by this artist and it is one of my favorites. I hope Mr. Morales designs more owls so that I can add them to my flock. All of his work is the BEST!!!!

"An adorable figurine of an Elf Owl."
I have purchased three lovely birds from Mr. Morales, and I love them all. They are very carefully painted and look so real the wire legs and feet look real too. You can tell he really likes birds by the way he paints them. I have them all around my apartment, like they are peaking around corners or keeping an eye on the other birds. So cute! I plan to buy more in time. Thanks Mr. Morales.

"Beautiful Oriole"
I gave this as a gift and the recipient put it in a outside planter and it still looks good after a few years. He loves Orioles and happens to be a Baltimore Orioles fan.

"I needed this sweet Pink Robbin"
Thank your Mauricio! Your work never ceases to amaze me. I dont think I will ever truly have enough of your birds. This little robin flew all the way from Australia via your hands in Guatemala. I love learning all about new-to-me-creatures in the world, so I read all about my new little beauty.
