"I'm Jessica Salazar and I'm from Lima. I worked in the US for a long time and returned to Peru in 2002 because my mother was ill. While taking care of her, I decided to leave the corporate world with its strict deadlines and agendas, and discovered the wonders of working towards one's own dreams.
"In 2011, I started to learn about alpaca wool, its high-quality sustainable production and fair trade.
"We use baby alpaca fleece, superfine alpaca wool, organic cotton and other fine natural fiber blends. I love these fibers for their softness, texture, versatility and, above all, because they are natural. The best part is that the alpaca doesn't suffer from the shearing process, when done responsibly.
"It hasn't been easy working for myself. Often, I've faced limited resources and other obstacles because my workshop is small. It can put the brakes on our projects, but we keep moving ahead despite the challenges, inspired by our artisans' talent and the magic of hand-crafted textile arts. I work with local artisans, giving them the opportunity to earn a fair wage while working from home. In this was, they don't have to worry about neglecting their families and tasks at home.
"I dream of expanding my little venture and obtaining a fair trade certification to help me improve the quality of life for the Peruvian artisans who collaborate with me. Fashion is the path for me to reach my goals. I want to promote Peruvian textiles and ethical fashion as a way to improve the living conditions for many artisan families in my country."
