On a cold winter’s day, nothing says "cozy" like a cup of hot tea. There’s something about putting your feet up, maybe reading a good book or having a piece of shortbread, and sipping hot tea that relaxes and recharges you. Adding to the enjoyment, is serving the tea from a beautiful teapot!
I was instantly charmed by this stoneware ceramic tea set from artist Tat Yan Soon (Bali-Java)! A cricket rests on the lid, while two geckos explore. The beautiful crackled glaze and rattan handle add to this whimsical, imaginative piece. Just looking at it makes me smile…and it is beautiful, displayed on my hutch!
The teapot is easy to use…just warm the teapot and cups with hot water, drain, and add hot water at the temperature you desire for your type of tea. You can also just heat the water, in the teapot, in the microwave. This has the advantage of heating the teapot at the same time. It shouldn’t be heated on a stove top.
You can add loose tea in a stainless steel infuser, or add paper filter bags. I like black tea and I just add a few paper filter tea bags to the hot water and let it steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong I want it. Ceramic teapots are great for all types of tea. They are generally smaller, so they will retain heat longer. This teapot holds 30 ounces. so there are many refills to share with a friend, in the 2 ounce cups. Of importance to me, the tea set is food safe (free of lead and toxins), as well as microwave and dishwasher safe, I love how easy it is to use and clean.
Tat Yan Soo, the talented artisan who created this tea set uses only natural materials, and hand crafts the pieces, before high firing them. He loves to cook and it shows in his work…his creations are beautiful and functional. The fields in the area where he has his workshop, are no longer fertile, and he has been able to offer work to artisans. I am happy to own beautiful items that benefit talented artisans around the world!
