Shabby Chic Home Décor for an Inviting Space

I have always been drawn to the shabby-chic decorating style.  While the soft, relaxed and feminine style isn’t exactly The Husband’s preferred style, my home office is my shabby-chic haven. It wasn’t always this way; truthfully until a month ago it was the storage room for a family of 5. Three of those five moved out in 1998! The “haven” was so filled with clutter, boxes and stuff that the family told me my office would be usable ‘when pigs fly’!

So the very first addition to my office was this absolutely adorable handcrafted blue ceramic flying pig from Thailand, called rather obviously, the ‘Flying Blue Pig‘ Seriously, how adorable is this little guy!? My wonderful flying pig makes me smile every time I see him.

The easy decorating style of shabby chic means I can blend distressed, antique looking pieces with both bright colors and light colors. It’s an anything-goes decorating style.

My office is a mismatched space that is packed with touches that scream ME! It may be eclectic, but that doesn’t mean it’s not organized. Books and magazines would look amazing in this rustic, blue magazine rack. I love the distressed look and this color couldn’t be more perfect.

My favorite piece of furniture in my office is this amazing footstool. I promise you that the pictures just don’t do it justice! This embellished ottoman foot stool from India, ‘Rajasthan Dreams’ looks like someone used a quilt that my grandmother made.  Color-coordinated pieces of turquoise blue material are used in its creation. The patchwork composition features elaborate embroidery and beadwork. This stool is stunning in person! It completely fits the shabby chic décor.

What will be the next addition to my office? I have my eye on this beautiful side table.  The handcrafted rustic white wood console table is called ‘Yahualica Cloud’  It will make a beautiful surface for my flying pig and maybe a plant! An arrangement of candles definitely belongs there as well.

While I’m decorating my Shabby-Chic area I can’t overlook my walls. NOVICA has beautiful items to help balance out my space. I am a huge fan of eclectic frames, with accents of a muted color palette of white, cream and ivory. Adding hints of pastel pinks and blues throughout the space ties it together. That’s why this next piece appeals to me so much. While this looks worn and weathered it has personality and is so unique! This hand-carved, wood wall panel with a fern motif from Bali is called, ‘Gentle Fern,
