There are two special September birthdays in my family; my brother and my grandma were both born in the ninth month. Because of this, I have experience looking for guy-appropriate gifts as well as those more suited for a lady.
The birthstone for September is the sapphire, a gorgeous blue stone that looks stunning in everything from earrings to anklets. The dangling beauties above feature luminescent white pearls and bold blue sapphires with coils of gold-plated sterling silver. The hoop earrings below feature over eight carats of gemstones, including tanzanite, blue topaz, apatite, and sapphire. I love the ombre effect!
Nothing spotlights the beauty of sapphire quite as nicely as the gorgeous cocktail ring above. The impressive checkerboard-cut stone is surrounded by an oval of always-lovely cubic zirconia. Below is a stunning piece called Ganesha’s Om. The sapphire stones follow the path of Om within the profile of Ganesha in the unique design of this necklace. In case you were curious, Ganesha is known as the Lord of Knowledge and Destroyer of Obstacles. He is considered one of the most important deities of the Hindu Parthenon.
September’s flower is the aster, a lovely bloom that is perfect as a pattern for colorful clothing. Above is a purple Thai sarong featuring large, colorful asters at their peak. Below is an image of a very feminine viscose and silk blend shawl showing randomly positioned pink and yellow aster blossoms.
Another item featuring asters is this elegant vase, which makes a wonderful gift for either gender. The sleek piece is made of Thai mango wood and features a bouquet of not only asters but also daisies and Christ thorn.
A fellow born in September might also appreciate a sapphire-colored sculpture. The piece above features polished celestite in a compact and practically glowing orb. Below is a beautifully crafted hummingbird in a piece designed to hang from the ceiling or catch light in any window. It is made from copal wood and is an example of something traditionally made in Oaxaca.
Another great gift idea for both men and women is the bold blue hammock below. The various shades of blue are reminiscent of the Mexican Caribbean. Mayan artisans take their hammocks very seriously; their creations are incredibly comfortable and easy to maintain–the perfect present!
Of course, you don’t have to use a sapphire or aster-themed item as a gift for someone with a birthday in September but if you choose to do so, it can make an especially personal and thoughtful gift.
