When I spied the Novica package in my mailbox I couldn’t wait to see the works of art inside. I carefully removed the wrapping to reveal a set of celadon plates that were beautifully crafted. I knew that they were a must-have for my collection. Each plate is intricately engraved with Thai peony blossoms, and the small petals lend such a delicate look.
I must admit I’m always adding to my tableware collection, which includes a rainbow of colors. The cool green color of celadon is perfect for mixing and matching, and Novica’s celadon ceramic collection is amazing. I already had an arrangement in mind for my next soirée. Yes, I love to entertain and the girls were invited over for a wine tasting/appetizer party. This would be the perfect time to show off my new plates. Now I could have used these plates for just about any condiment, but couldn’t resist showcasing some of my ladybug appetizers on those lovely blossoms. The party was a hit and so were the plates. The girls were raving about them, and we were all particularly fond of the crackled, glossy glaze, which gives the plates an old-world feel. They are a great addition to my hostess ware.
Thai Peony Celadon Ceramic Condiment Plates by Kanda
Needless to say, I am delighted with my purchase. I also enjoyed the story of the talented artisan behind the craftsmanship. Meet Kanda, who while growing up in Thailand, was eventually inspired by her mother’s collection of celadon tableware. Yes – everyday things that are normally taken for granted inspired her. Today she is a successful artisan and businesswoman who can proudly say she created jobs for her local craftspeople.
I do like reading the stories behind the artisans, but I thoroughly enjoy browsing the complete Novica tableware collection. It’s like being on a treasure hunt. I was recently drawn to the handblown glassware from Mexico. I spotted a beautiful set of margarita glasses called Acapulco (below) and my heart did a little pitter-patter. I believe I’ve found a new theme for my next girlfriend party!
