I’m not sure what it is about the start of a new year, but after the holiday decorations are put away and the house is (somewhat) back in order, I want to surround myself with decor pieces that are said to bring good luck. I’m not superstitious, but there’s something comforting about ‘good luck gifts‘, which more than anything, bring a smile to my face.
Earlier in the year I purchased a stunning thin cuff lucky elephant bracelet from NOVICA made by an artisan in Thailand. I was so pleased with my purchase that I went back and selected another lucky treat for myself, this time featuring one of my favorite animals — the cat.
I chose the pair of Lucky Cat Thai Celadon Ceramic Figurines in Green because I figured two lucky cats had to be better than one! By doing a little research I learned that these figures were inspired by the Japanese lucky cat Maneki Neko (beckoning cat), which is believed to bring good luck to its owner. Maneki Neko are also referred to as welcoming cat, money cat, happy cat and fortune cat.
These two cat figurines were created by NOVICA artisan Duangkamol Srisukr from Thailand. Each piece was handcrafted from Celadon ceramic and signed by the artisan who made it (Duangkamol works with a team of master ceramists). It just so happens that Duangkamol’s favorite animal is the cat, which she finds both “interesting and charming”.
When I ordered this pair of lucky cats I didn’t note the size, but was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. At 5.25″ H x 3.1″ W, they’re substantial enough to be seen on a bookshelf or curio cabinet. I’m proudly displaying little cat figurines in my living room on the entertainment center.
