In May of 2006, Lauren Alicia de Remer received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a creative writing emphasis from Whittier College in southern California. Having completed editorial internships prior to graduation, her writing was soon featured in Foam, Riviera and Scuba Diving Magazine. In the years following, she spent time working in the non-profit sector at Tompkins Conservation which allowed her the opportunity to work alongside philanthropists from all over the world. Through the professional relationships she made and inner passion she found for protecting the environment, Lauren set forth on a new path towards responsible adventure travel. She spent five years working in sales & marketing at O.A.R.S. whitewater rafting and three in client services at Mountain Travel Sobek managing international trip packages for clients such as National Geographic Adventures and New York Times Journeys. Lauren has volunteered for community development programs in Rwanda, acted as a development and partnership consultant for entrepreneurial education training for Peruvian adolescents, and participated in a dolphin research project on Wasini Island in Mkwiro, Kenya. Currently, Lauren crews on 80ft Schooner Freda B in San Francisco Bay, sea kayak guides for Seatrek out of Sausalito, and continues to take on freelance projects in her spare time. She currently resides on her 1970 Cal 2-30 sailboat alongside her border collie, Buoy.
