Just before the holiday season, I purchased a brand new condo and moved in. I brought many décor pieces from the old place, but most of the furniture didn’t end up coming with me. Moving into a brand new home meant that we could start from a clean slate. I couldn’t wait to have fun transforming the place into a nice, warm and inviting home.
The first item that was important on my list, and a must have, was a new couch. I stuck with a neutral color because that way, I can easily add some color using funky pillows and throws. Something as simple as a throw blanket on the couch can easily transform a room. It’s what makes it inviting and cozy.
The second most important piece of furniture that helps transform a room, is an accent chair. Whether it be solid wood with some gorgeous engraving work or a chair that’s bright in color, it helps bring a space together. I love the chair below, with all the wood and leather work. The artist who created this has real talent. I’d probably have a small throw tossed over the top corner, but at the same time, I wouldn’t want to cover any of the beautiful work.
I also love the rocking chair below. It’s a traditional shape, but with a more ornate spin to it. It’s truly beautiful, and I wish I had it in my home. 
One item that really finishes off a room is a nice area rug. That’s the last item that I still need to invest in, and have been saving up for. It’s a big decision, and I’ve been searching for a couple of months now, to find the perfect one. The design below would be perfect for my living room. It’s modern with neutral colors but it’s bold when it comes to the pattern. I would love to add this item to my wishlist.
Another way to completely transform any space is by adding a work of art. Whether it be small or large, it can set the tone for the room. I have always wanted to be able to have a wall mural-style photo, with the water and boats in the background. The photo below is the perfect example of what I imagine and would want to be the main focal point of a room. If my place were bigger, I would have bought this exact print. It reminds me of growing up in Nova Scotia. Any painting or photograph can easily add atmosphere to a room.
The only other things that can finish off a room is by some funky décor. NOVICA is awesome for artsy items that you wouldn’t normally find anywhere else. There are plenty of unique pieces that would dress up any space, and I own quite a few of them!
