“When my father passed away, it was a difficult time and I fell into a depression. It was at that difficult time that inspiration began to come. How could you create a bag that was useful for various activities of daily life, displaying Mexican traditions, and that was friendly to our beautiful planet?
“In Mexico in the 40s or 50s it was very common to observe housewives with a nice bag of this type when out shopping. That was what attracted me most about this material; how it reflects a beautiful tradition. It occurred to me that these beautiful bags should be transformed into a complement to our day-to-day life and thus maintains that tradition. And it was through observation that I learned to weave them, little by little.
“We started working together initially with two people who were helping us with the weaving. I was in charge of the design, colors and details of the bags. Initially it was challenging to create a design from scratch that had a distinctive touch. Colors are part of that challenge.
“Each of my designs is inspired by traditions of our country; the Talavera, the bright colors of our land, and trending colors. But the greatest inspiration is my family, who has given me the strength to continue growing and innovating my passion.
“I am inspired by the hunger to continue creating colors and designs. Pieces full of tradition that complements our daily life in a creative way. Now we have reached several countries. NOVICA is a beautiful gateway for artisans passionate about the traditions that have forged our country.”
