He is credited with the first nativity scene in an Italian grotto featuring humans and live animals. Chávez crafts the colorful ceramic  retablo  by hand featuring Mary Joseph and the Baby Jesus surrounded by devout shepherds. A cow and a donkey lie next to Jesus keeping a loyal watch over Him. </p>
