Passport Sale

NOVICA's Passport Sale is a unique calendar of events that brings you one-of-a-kind items from the world's finest artisans. In the tradition of today's private sale shopping sites, NOVICA's Passport Sale exhibits global treasures at huge discounts (up to 70% off retail values) during short events that last several days. These events offer our customers the opportunity to own precious handcrafted items that are not available anywhere else.

True to our commitment of showing you the artisan behind each piece of work, in the Passport Sale you can also read about the artist, see their picture, and often watch video of them at work.

We want to give artists and artisans around the world a global platform to express their true artistic talents and to spur their creativity. At the same time, we want to provide you with access to unique, hard-to-find items at great values that only the internet can allow.

At the deepest essence of our philosophy, we want to create a bridge between you and the many talented artisans across the globe. We want you to know about who you're buying from. We want you to feel that attachment to the product and to the hands that created it.

Fair trade and compensation of artisans

When NOVICA was founded over a decade ago, our driving desire was to create a revolutionary new system through which the artists and artisans of the world could display their fine works to a global audience of prospective customers. To this day, we do not charge artists any fees for listing their items on the website. Furthermore, artists remain fully independent - they are free to raise their prices, lower their prices, or even remove their items from our website. By cutting out the long strings of middlemen, NOVICA allows both consumers and artisans to get the most out of each and every transaction.

Placing an order

Placing an order with the Passport Sale is much the same as ordering from NOVICA.com. The only difference is that the event you may be viewing will only be live for a certain amount of time (usually no longer than 1 week). For this reason, if you find something you like on the Passport Sale, it's a good idea to buy it on the day, as it may become unavailable very soon.

Cart time-out

Due to the limited edition nature of the Passport Sale products, if you have not completed checkout 1 hour after placing items in your cart, they will be automatically removed so other customers have access to them.

Event end time

You can tell when each event will end by the ticker timer at the top right side of the page. 5 minutes before the end of the sale, the timer shows up in a larger size at the top of the page to give you extra warning. Provided your items are in your cart by the time the sale ends, you are free to proceed to the checkout and complete your purchase.

Order status

If you placed an order more than 10 days ago and would like to find out the status, please send an email to orders@novica.com and include your name, order number, and email address. A member of our customer service team will reply with information about the status of your order.

Order cancellation

NOVICA reserves the right to cancel an order any time before it has been shipped and the credit card charged if one or more of the following conditions applies:

  1. Product pricing error: Because NOVICA offers a large array of items, a product may on occasion be listed with the incorrect price. If a product is purchased at a price that is lower than the correct price, we will, at our discretion, contact you for instructions prior to shipping the order or notify you of the outright cancellation of the order. In the event that the correct price should be lower than the price paid, we will adjust your charge and give you the lower price.
  2. Misuse or abuse of a gift code or promotion code, including any action prohibited by or in violation of the terms and conditions of that particular code. If you are unsure of the terms and conditions of a certain code, please contact us at service@novica.com prior to placing an order.
  3. Billing information provided for the credit card does not match the information on file with the card issuing bank.
  4. Credit card declined by the financial institution.

PLEASE NOTE: The issuance of an order number or the receipt of a confirmation email does not serve as a guarantee that an order will be fulfilled. No order is final until a representative of NOVICA has confirmed that none of the aforementioned conditions apply to that order.

Methods of payment

We accept debit card and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover), either online through our secure server or by phone. In all cases, you may place your order through our online checkout system. If you are paying via credit card and would prefer to place your order over the phone, please contact a member of our customer service team toll-free at 1-877-2-NOVICA (1-877-266-8422) or (310) 255-6586. Please note that credit cards will be charged only after an order has shipped from our fulfillment center, although an authorization will be obtained at the time the order is placed.

If you pay by credit card, your card will not be charged until your order has been shipped from our fulfillment center. If you ordered from multiple regions, your card will be charged separately for each region as each part of your order is shipped.

Security

At NOVICA, we realize that shopping online can feel a bit risky. However, the truth of the matter is that advances in secure server technology have made shopping at NOVICA just as safe as using your credit card to shop around town or over the phone. Our goal is for you to feel as comfortable using your credit card at NOVICA as you do everywhere else that you shop. To that end, NOVICA has partnered with Verisign for all online credit card transactions.

Sales tax

California sales tax will be collected on all orders being shipped from California to addresses in California. Please note that most items sold at NOVICA are not shipped from California (they are shipped from our international fulfillment centers), so sales tax is not due for most orders shipping to California. Most of the items being shipped from California are showcased in the "Fast Shipping" section of NOVICA.com, and so are not related to the special items on offer in the Passport Sale. If you will be required to pay sales tax on one or more items, you will be alerted during Checkout before you actually submit the order.

Delivery times

On average, orders arrive to the destination address in 2-3 weeks. The delivery time will depend primarily on two factors: item availability and shipping service.

  • Item availability: If an item is showing as in stock, it is available for purchase. Due to the limited edition nature of Passport Sale items there is no backorder facility available for items featured in the sale events.
  • Shipping service: During checkout, we will show you a list of available shipping services and their corresponding prices and timeframes. You may also view shipping charges and timeframes through the "Calculate Shipping" link in both the shopping cart and the item detail page. Note some items carry a special delivery timeframe that may differ from that of other items from the same region - these items are clearly labeled with the special timeframe on the product detail page (as well as in checkout). If we determine that we will not be able to deliver an order within the promised timeframe, we will immediately contact you via email.
Shipping methods

Most items available through the Passport Sale will ship direct to you from one of our 8 international fulfillment centers. Shipping times do vary between different NOVICA regions, so be sure to carefully review the shipping options available for your country when selecting your shipping service. Where multiple shipping options are available, we will indicate the corresponding price and estimated timeframe for each service.

At this time we are unable to ship directly to APO/FPO/DPO addresses. We can ship to PO Box addresses in the USA when the Normal shipping service is selected. Orders with Premium or Priority Premium shipping service require a physical address, as those orders will be delivered by UPS, DHL, FedEx or a similar courier. Additionally, these shipments will typically require a signature at the time of delivery, so whenever possible we encourage you to provide a shipping address at which someone will be present during the daytime to receive the package.

TIP: If you have a U.S. Territory or APO/FPO/DPO address and prefer to receive your orders at that address, we recommend the use of a third-party forwarder - please click here for more information.

Orders containing more than one item from a single NOVICA region will be shipped once all items from that region are ready for shipment, unless otherwise specified at the time you place your order.

Shipping outside the US

In keeping with our international focus, NOVICA is proud to ship to many countries around the world. For a complete list of countries we currently serve, use the "calculate shipping" link which is next to the item price on the item detail page. New international customers join a large base of loyal, satisfied customers across the globe who have already discovered the magic of NOVICA.

The only difference for international customers is that, whenever prompted for your region of the world, you should change "USA" (the default setting) to the appropriate region, or wherever you plan on having the order shipped. Non-U.S. customers should look into possible tariffs and/or duties that might be imposed by local law on incoming international shipments, as NOVICA cannot be held responsible for any tax requirements imposed by governments outside the USA.

Additionally, please check with the Customs bureau in the destination country if you are unsure about any commodity-specific import regulations or restrictions (including quarantine) that might affect your shipment. A few of the country-specific import restrictions known to affect items sold at NOVICA include, but are not limited to: (a) all jewelry items being shipped to Spain, Monaco or France; (b) all items being shipped to Australia that contain natural fibers (including bamboo, coconut, straw, and cane), potpourri, wood, animal parts (including hide, bone, and horn), natural wool, or fine animal hair. NOVICA cannot be held responsible for any items quarantined, destroyed or otherwise not delivered as a result of an import restriction in any country other than the USA.

Please note: many large or oversized items, including furniture, are only available to customers in the 48 contiguous U.S. states.

Address errors

A fee will be applied to all orders where:

  1. The incorrect address has been provided by the customer and the package is returned as undeliverable
  2. An invalid address has been provided by the customer, resulting in a surcharge from the carrier. Such an error may include, but is not limited to, invalid or incomplete address information; incorrect zip code; incorrect state or country information; typographical errors; or transposed digits
  3. A move or sudden change of address results in the refusal or non-delivery of an order
  4. An APO or FPO address has been provided as the shipping address
  5. A PO Box has been provided as the shipping address

The fee will consist of a $5.00 handling charge plus any applicable costs related to re-routing, forwarding, or redelivering the parcel(s). Please note that there is no charge for address changes that are made before an order is shipped.

Refused or returned

A $25 fee (per package) will be assessed for all refused shipments. In addition, the customer will be responsible for any return shipping charges assessed by the courier. For international (non-USA) deliveries, the customer will be responsible for any duty/VAT/import charges on refused or unclaimed shipments, in addition to return shipping costs. Shipping costs are not refundable on refused or unclaimed shipments.

Please note a $10 fee (per package) will be assessed for all shipments that are re-routed or returned to NOVICA by the carrier. This fee is separate from the re-shipping fee, which is required before packages can be re-shipped.

Import taxes and duties

NOVICA will cover all duties and import taxes for customers in the United States. Orders being shipped to addresses outside of the United States may require the recipient to pay duties upon delivery. Customers outside the United States, and particularly those in Latin America, Africa, Australia and Portugal, are encouraged to contact their local courier or customs bureau to inquire about possible import taxes. NOVICA cannot be held responsible for duties or taxes imposed by the local government on orders delivered to countries other than the United States. Please note that while we will declare orders containing a gift message as "Gifts" on the Customs declaration, we cannot honor any requests to alter the declared value for an order.

APO/FPO/DPO addresses

NOVICA is unable to ship directly to APO/FPO/DPO addresses. If you have a U.S. Territory or APO/FPO/DPO address and prefer to receive your orders at that address, we recommend the use of a third-party forwarder - please click here for more information. If using a forwarding service, please note that the address provided to NOVICA will still need to be a valid physical address.

Returns policy

For orders shipped to the continental US:

Refunds will be available for up to 60 days from the day you receive your order. You must request a Returned Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number during this 60-day period to qualify for a refund. To request an RMA number, please log in to your myNovica account, visit the Orders & Returns section, and locate the order that contains the item(s) you would like to return. If your return is in any way a result of an error by NOVICA, we will provide you with a prepaid return label and will happily refund all applicable shipping costs paid on the product(s) you are returning. If the return is not the result of an error by NOVICA, you will be responsible for all shipping and gift box costs incurred for the order and any costs associated with returning the item(s). Please send your return using a reliable carrier that offers tracking (such as UPS, FedEx, or Priority Mail). It is strongly recommended that you insure the package, as you will be responsible for ensuring that all items arrive at the returns center in their original condition. Refunds will not be issued if the returned products have been damaged or altered in any way before arriving at the Returns Center. No refunds will be available after the 60-day returns period has expired.

For orders shipped outside the continental US:

No refunds will be available after the 60-day returns period has expired.

Returning a gift:

If you have received a gift from NOVICA and would like to return it, you may do so by requesting an RMA number via email at service@novica.com or by phone during the 60-day period following the original delivery date of the order. As soon as the return is received, we will issue you a Store Credit for the amount of the original order, less shipping charges, so that you may make a new selection from any of the offerings on the website. Please rest assured that we will not alert the person who sent you the gift to your return request.

Promotion codes on returned orders:

If you have used a promotion code on an order and later decide to return all parts of that order as a result of an error on NOVICA's part, we will gladly issue you a new promotion code for a future purchase on the site. If the return did not result from an error by NOVICA, you will be unable to re-use the original promotion code.

Issuance of credit:

If you purchased by credit card or Paypal, your account will be credited for the full applicable amount within 7 business days of receipt of the returned merchandise. If you paid by check or money order, you will receive a check from NOVICA for the full applicable amount of the return by mail approximately 1-3 weeks after the returned product has been received at the NOVICA Returns Center. If you are interested in exchanging one product for another, you will need to return the unwanted item and submit a completely new order (either online or by phone) for the product you would like to purchase.

Important notes and restrictions:

Refunds will not be available if the returned products have been damaged or altered in any way before arriving at the Returns Center. NOVICA is not responsible for loss or any costs incurred (including freight, duties and taxes, or import fees) for items returned without an RMA number or to any address other than a NOVICA Returns Center. No refunds or returns on custom orders.

No refunds or returns on physical or email gift cards. Make certain to use the original packaging when returning an item to ensure that it arrives in the same condition in which it was received. As a safeguard against potential abuse, NOVICA reserves the right to deny a refund to anyone who has made what we determine to be excessive returns. Please note that gift box charges are not refundable.

How to return an item
  1. Request a Returned Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number

    For fastest service, please log in to your myNovica account, visit the Orders & Returns section, and locate the order that contains the item(s) you would like to return. If you prefer, you may also submit your RMA request via email to service@novica.com, and please be sure to include all the details.

  2. RMA Number and detailed return instructions are provided by NOVICA

    If the return is the result of an error by NOVICA and the merchandise is being returned from an address in the continental United States, we will provide you with a prepaid return label. If the return is the result of an error by NOVICA but the merchandise is being returned from an address outside the continental United States, we will provide you with special instructions. In all other cases, the address for the nearest Returns Center will be provided.

  3. Returning the item(s) to NOVICA

    Be certain to include your RMA number inside each package being returned, as well as a copy of the original NOVICA packing list (if available). You may also include any additional feedback related to the order that may not have been included in your original RMA request. If you are responsible for return shipping costs, please use a trackable shipping service (UPS, FedEx, or Priority Mail within the US; EMS, UPS, FedEx, TNT, or DHL from outside the US) to ensure that all items are received at Returns Center in good order.

  4. Issuance of credit by NOVICA

    Within 7 business days of receipt of the returned merchandise at the Returns Center, a credit will be issued for the applicable amount using the same form of payment originally used for the order (except where other arrangements have been made, as in the case of gift orders). If you would like to order another item in place of the returned product, please submit a completely new order.

Missing orders

Be sure to indicate the complete and correct shipping address when you are placing your order. NOVICA is not responsible for items that have not been received due to an incorrect address or change of address. If you have not received your order and would like to check the status, please contact our Customer Service Department at service@novica.com (be sure to note your order number and email address, and verify the correct mailing address). A member of our customer service team will check our records to determine when your order was processed and shipped. Please note that any claims related to non-receipt of merchandise must be made within 15 days of the shipment date or within 7 days of the delivery date reported by the carrier (where applicable), whichever came first.

Damaged or incomplete orders

At NOVICA, your satisfaction is our priority. If you have received a damaged or incorrect item, or if part of your order is missing, please notify us immediately. The best way to report any problem with your order is to log in to your myNovica account, visit the Orders & Returns section, and locate the order that contains the item(s) in question. From the order details, you will be able to report a problem - please be sure to include as much detail as possible so that we assist you more effectively. If you prefer, you may also email our customer service team at service@novica.com to report a problem. In your message, please include your name, order number, and email address, and provide as much detail as possible about the situation. We will be happy to replace any damaged items, assuming a comparable replacement is available, or provide you with a full refund, including all shipping costs. Similarly, if you should receive a product other than the one you ordered, the correct product will be sent to you at no additional charge or a full refund (including shipping costs) will be issued.

Any products that might be missing from your order will be shipped as soon as possible at no additional charge to you. Do keep in mind that if you ordered from multiple regions, you will be receiving multiple packages. This is due to the fact that each region ships its merchandise directly to the purchaser. Please double check that the product or products that you believe to be missing from your order were not ordered from a different region from those products that you have already received.

The information you provide to NOVICA will only be used to process your order. Unless there is a problem with your order or you have opted to receive the NOVICA Journal by email, you will not be contacted by NOVICA. If you do opt to receive the NOVICA Journal but later change your mind, you can request to be removed from our list by simply emailing us at remove @ novica.com. You may also update or change the personal information NOVICA has collected by sending an email to service @ novica.com. Should there be any changes to NOVICA's Privacy Guarantee, all affected users will immediately be notified by email and all relevant changes will be posted to this portion of the site.

While you are shopping, NOVICA uses cookies to keep track of the items that you have placed in your shopping cart. Cookies are bits of information that allow NOVICA's server to associate you with the specific products that you have added to your shopping cart. What is so special about the Passport Sale prices?

With up to 70% off retail values, the prices within our Passport Sale are some of the best for unique handcrafted items you'll find online. These really are huge savings, and a great way to introduce yourself, or your friends, to the world of fair trade beautifully crafted products.

What does 70% off retail actually mean?

If you were to hunt for similar store based handcrafted items that were produced under fair trade conditions, hailing from a specific region, made by similar master artisans, then in many cases you would find the prices to be at least 70% over those displayed in the Passport Sale.

How do Passport Sale prices differ from NOVICA.com prices?

The items in our Passport Sale events are all 'debut' items, and as such their introductory prices are generally 20-40% less than what they may sell for on NOVICA.com in the future.

Do the artisans get any less for their work?

As with NOVICA.com, artisans have complete control over their pricing. Any discount offered is shouldered by NOVICA and not the artisan. We consider the Passport Sale to be the purest expression of the NOVICA mission, and our biggest gain is through your invites and recommendations to friends and family. Please ask them to make a difference by shopping fair trade, from the finest artisans on Earth, and in doing so, you can benefit too!
