Wood sculpture, 'Contemplative Buddha'

Buddha closes his eyes to earthly distractions in pursuit of self-realization, his image elegantly captured in a sculpture design by Luh Mas Sri Pertamiari. Detailed with fine accuracy in hibiscus wood, Buddha's meditative pose denotes his tranquil spirit, and pure and peaceful aura.

It is said that a fortune-teller prophesized Siddhartha Gautama would become a teacher of the world. At age 29, Siddhartha left his wealthy family in pursuit of truth and after six years, Siddhartha had the religious epiphanies on which Buddhism is based. In short, it stipulates that a wholesome existence guided by the right understanding, the right thinking, the right speech, the right conduct, the right livelihood, the right effort, the right mindfulness and the right concentration will release one from the painful cycle of life and death.

Hibiscus wood exhibits colors ranging from white to light gray, dark gray or even black heartwood. This natural occurrence can rarely be replicated, making each carving exceptionally unique.
