The magnificence of the Taj Mahal, the crown of palaces, inspires this painting by Ernane Cortat. Built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, it is a monument in loving memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal who died giving birth to their 14th child. In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Brazilian artist conjures a scene from ancient Agra with flowers, an elephant and dancing girls.
