Rio Grande do Sul is considered the largest producer of agates in the world. One of the most beautiful gems, only 40% of agates mined here are dyed to achieve a vivid coloring, compared to the 90% of agates mined elsewhere that require dying procedures. Rio Grande do Sul also provides much of the world’s supply of amethysts and citrines.
