"I was born and brought up in Punjab where I spent my college days. My hometown is filled with fun and festivals, and people from Punjab are known to be jolly and fun loving.

"I've always been interested in arts and crafts. When I was just 12, I cut up a curtain to make myself a shirt and this is when my family also knew where I was headed. I was so excited at the outcome of my design – it was a priceless piece.

"After completing a design course, I did my internship in an export house that dealt with woolen knitwear. I then worked with several other export houses. It was a good experience and I learned a lot. But somehow, there were always limitations to what I could do – I could only design what another person had in mind and sometimes this really disappointed me. I wanted to break all limitation and boundaries in my creativity. I wanted to reach beyond what others decided for me! So I ventured out on my own. But I'll always value the experience I gained over many years of working.

"I started with an Indian collection – mostly wedding designs – and I received a good response. Slowly, I started expanding to design accessories like stoles, scarves and evening bags.

"I love working in bright colors – they're my favorites. I love combining traditional techniques and new designs. Right now I'm working on a batik collection and am already receiving great reviews. I also get inspiration from the seasons. As surprising as this may sound, various climatic conditions have different effects on the colors and penetration of dyes… which of course affect how an actual textile design comes out."
