Amit and Richard

"We are fun-loving, creative and curious," Amit and Richard confide. "We prefer to live in the present and our designs are fun for us and everyone else involved with us – from the artisan to the person who wears our work.

Amit graduated with a degree in science. "That led me to digital graphic design. I created promotional material for clients in the textile and fashion fields, and this inspired me to study textile design," she says. "Richard's journey is quite similar. He graduated with a degree in information technology, then took postgraduate studies in apparel design and merchandising. He also interned with one of India's leading fashion designers.

"We started exploring design in 2006 by experimenting with India's handspun khadi cloth and handwoven textiles. Working with natural fibers has been our primary intent.

"Our love for traditional textiles and craft techniques attracted us to this field. We absolutely love the feel and character of handcrafted work with all its nuances and irregularities. To use the individuality of each piece is a true luxury.

"Working closely with craftspeople from around the country is not always easy, and it can be challenging sometimes. But it is a two-way learning process that makes it all worthwhile.

"It has truly been an enriching and satisfying upward curve for both of us, as individual designers. Working constantly alongside a wide variety of skilled craftspeople from sampling to marketing has provided us with ample opportunity for material and technique exploration. It has also let us develop our sensitivity and understanding of traditional crafts and apparel. Working with weavers and artisans around the country, we have created varied collections of scarves and textiles for international shoppers."
