"I was born in the capital in 1984 and grew up surrounded by artists – art has always been a part of my life. My mother is an artist who is well known in the art world. Growing up with her influence inspired me to create new and unique designs. From the time I was a boy, I helped out in a textile workshop where they designed prototypes, furniture, quilts and many other things. That's where my adventure began.

"Because I have art in my veins, I've always had a vision of working with Guatemalan artisans. This led me to study industrial design in the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. I wanted to return to Guatemala and work with artisans to create new and stylish designs to show our Maya legacy to the world.

"My first artisan design was of metal and ceramic in 2008. It was a sculpture comprised of 12 pieces of differing sizes. To create it, I worked with artisans from the town of Antigua who helped me create the pieces. Since then, I've worked with themes of art and design.

"I was able to set up my own workshop. There, I collaborate with a team to create Guatemalan handicrafts that integrate tradition with modern design.

"Working with these talented people is a unique experience – their essence as a culture is intact and it was this essence that captured my attention. Their integrity as human beings was my greatest inspiration and I've become passionate about Guatemala's textiles and artisans.

"We've formed a very active team in which each artisan is trained for quality and attention to detail. We work with artisan communities that are expert in their areas and we support them so that every day they grow more in their personal lives. Because of this constant effort, we received first place in the First Competition of Central American Handicrafts from the Asociación Guatemalteca de Exportadores.

"Establishing myself in the world of handicrafts has been a very gratifying experience as, thanks to our designs and our blend of traditional materials with innovative pieces, we've been able to create a personal hallmark that transmits Maya culture through each one.

"Nature and the environment, the customs and colors of our culture inspire my collections. Our designs are a fusion of the millennial Maya culture and the sophisticated world of today. Through them, I want to share a bit of our folklore.

"With the use of recycled and eco-friendly materials, I strive to give a new twist to the artisan sector. While opening new markets, we collaborate in the development of our native communities.

"I love nature and outdoor activities – they clear my mind and inspire me to create new designs. My dream is to show the world the flavor, the texture, the scent and the colors of Guatemala with designs that represent us. My mission is to help our regional communities with new ideas for the creation of quality modern designs that represent the Maya culture."
