    'Back to Village'

Carrying her baby on her back and a parcel on her head, a woman returns to her village. She is welcomed by the sun, symbol of light and life. "Life is in you," comments Francis Amoah as he paints with a palette of bright acrylic paints. "This painting takes away stress and brings joy to the mind of the observer."

"My name is Francis Amoah; I was born in 1978 in Accra. I received my basic education there from 1991 to 1995. I continued to a senior secondary school in 1996, where I took visual art and I also specialized in painting, modeling and carving. After graduating, I attended Aukle College of Art for more courses in painting and graphic design, and graduated in 2002. I draw my inspiration directly from the environment in which I live, and my images and compositions often portray the Ghanaian way of life.

"I paint mainly in oil, acrylics and watercolors on canvas and paper using both the brush and palette knife. Themes for my works include markets, seascapes and landscapes, and are inspired by the nature of Africa but also talks about people and places.

"My paintings range from realistic to semi-abstract and are characterized by rich and bright colors. They also emphasize all important composition values such as proportion and perspective. I always try to reveal the beauty of nature through women in my paintings, because they are as beautiful as nature.

"I have exhibited my paintings within the country and people also come for my works to exhibit them in their galleries. I am currently training two apprentices and have my own workshop.

"I am a member of the Ghana Association of Visual Art (GAVA). My favorite things in life are drawing, playing football and singing."

In 2007, UNICEF selected some paintings by Francis featured in Novica to be part of their greeting card collection.
