    Wood mask, 'Man of Mystery'

Mysterious and powerful, this mask evokes Indonesian artistry. Wayan Rita designs this original mask according to the Lombok style, which he carves by hand from albesia wood. The mask's crackled patterns are painted with red and gold.

"Every time I make a mask and I paint it, I get this great feeling of happiness. I imagine how people will be attracted to my work, and I love to see how they react to it. I work together with my husband and my children, which means that we get to spend a lot of time together. We also try to find ways to improve the quality of our work, share ideas and come up with original designs.

"We only close the workshop for important celebrations and ceremonies. It is our tradition to prepare offerings and take them to the temple. A ceremony can go from one day to one month, it depends on what it is we are celebrating.

"One day a woman came to our workshop and invited us to join Novica. I feel so fortunate to have come into contact with them, and I applaud their mission to help small artisans such as myself. I am excited to show our work to the rest of the world, through Internet."
