"Nature, surf, sun, moon, oceans, seas, animals, minerals, travel, art, family, friends, knowledge, culture, conscience, honor, respect, the colors, the difference... These are the words that describe me, that inspire me, and that make me value life.

"My name is Remi Tuot and I was born in Niamey, Niger, which makes me half Touareg and half Haussa. My father's family is Touareg, living in the Sahara (Agades), which is very famous for its silver jewelry. In fact my grandfather Sahdou Mokta was famous for the techniques he used and developed, as well as for the originality of his designs. He inspired me to follow in his footsteps.

"I am someone who feels connected to nature, I am perfectionist, and I am creative.

"My father died before I was born and I was adopted by a French man who sent me to Tahiti when I was just 6 years old. I still remember the first time I left the yellow desert to travel across the South Pacific Ocean, I was so astonished! I couldn't believe that so much water existed in this world!

"I have been living in Bali since 1995, I decided to live here because I found harmony in my mind, creation in my passion, and a direction in my life.

"Since I was just a young boy, I've always enjoyed designing jewelry and Bali gave me the opportunity to learn how to actually craft it. Starting on my own was a struggle. I am an autodidact, I learn things by practicing a lot and keeping my heart unrestrained to let my creativity flourish all the time. At first, getting established was tough for me, because I had to learn about real business management while at the same time creating an environment conducive for me to be dedicated to my artwork.

"My inspiration comes from old ethnic and antique jewelry and design. Now that I have my own studio, I still learn and create at the same time. I design and craft by myself.

"I always try to make simple and original models, different to the designers that I have found here in Bali. There's always someone who wants to copy my designs, but I craft my own products by hand with my own tools, which I brought over from Niger.

"I am always up to a new challenge, to be able to create something that's been on my mind and making it real, as a piece of artwork. I'm a Capricorn man who likes musical instruments, ethnic and Afro beat type of music. My favorite quote is En Afrique, quand un vieillard meurt, c'est une bibliothéque qui brul ("In Africa, when an old man dies, a library burns") by Amadou Hampate Ba.

"My hope for the future is to be happy, never stop to creating something, and to always be open to inspiration. I wish I could have more clients that can help me express myself."

Remi Rocks!!! ""Natural Harmony"" is a beautifully realized design--love the symmetry/textures. Started getting compliments the first day I put it on...very light and comfortable for the 20mm width....
