Marlene de Aramburu

Marlene Gabersick de Aramburu was born March 26, 1960. "I was always attracted by the Inca culture," she says, "and I decided to make clothes with the same materials they used. I'd describe my work as creative, and my materials as Peruvian - rooted in ancestral traditions. Since 1975, I've worked with alpaca wool. It is absolutely exquisite – long wearing and with a very fine texture. The beauty and delicacy of the garments you can create with this elegant texture are wonderful.

"I love my work, from the design concept and pattern to the colors, materials, and fashion trends. Knitting each piece, cutting and sewing them together are processes that complement my art. I also consider sizes, appliqués, embroidery, accessories, steaming and quality control. I am even careful of packaging the finished piece - as each one is born of this creative process.

"I wish people all over the world would get to know our Andean cultures and try alpaca wool clothing. It is not only soft, but cozy and warm."
