"I grew up in the art world serenaded with songs my father played on the accordion. He was a musician, an artisan and a sculptor. I loved sitting next to him as he carved vases from jacaranda wood featuring African motifs. By the time I was an adolescent, I was taking classes in fine art and was making my own sculptures from wood and other organic residues.
"I find inspiration in Brazil's tribal culture, where the different communities craft original art work with natural materials. I specialize in masks, hand-painted apparel with rustic textures, and decorative pieces of personal use.
"My materials of choice are wood, raw cotton, banana fiber, palm, feathers and recycled paper. My first creations where brooches with multi-colored feathers, taking care of only using those that had fallen off birds, as part of a natural and biological process.
"I had a very successful first exhibit at the Casa de Cultura Emilio Gato, which allowed me the opportunity to set up a proper workshop. Here I am able to pass on my knowledge and expertise to those wishing to develop their creative, artistic instinct."
