Roberto Nuñez

"My full name is Roberto Jorge Nuñez Serra, and I was born in Argentina on September 10, 1967. I studied Industrial, Graphic and Publicity Design, in fact I worked in those fields for a while, but I came to realize that art was my life so I left everything to pursue it. I have no regrets and I am very happy. I have even collaborated with the U.N. as a sculptor.

"My artistic legacy begins with my grandfather, continues with my mother and father, and now me. We are all links in a chain of artists that spans three generations. That's where my passion comes from.

"I began to paint and draw as a child, I used to paint with temperas, and when I was 14 years old, my mother gave me my very first set of oil paints, and it has been the most precious gift I have ever received from her! I tried out the colors, I mixed them and it brought my brushes to life, and in doing so, I never stopped. They fill me with great emotion and they have become a big part of my life.

"Other than painting, something I have always liked is wood. I used to watch how others would take a log and use their tools to transform it and give it shape. So, one day, I got some tools of my own, I began to carve, and became enamored with the whole process. The first things I made were very rustic lamps, which I once put in my car for no apparent reason. That day I parked in a crowded place, and displayed them outside, on top of the car. By the time I got back home I was stunned – I had sold all of them! I was so surprised and I felt very proud. It spurred me on to create new and better things. My mind never rests, I'm always thinking of new things to show.

"We moved to Peru in 1992 because of my dad's job. Later on, I married a Peruvian woman who I love very much and we have a daughter, who inspires me so much.

"I would describe my work as being a wonderful artistic world that never stops being original and exclusive. Working with a log of wood is to give it a different life. I want to transmit nature's beauty in each one of my sculptures. When I arrive to the finished piece, it becomes a special moment for me, for it contains all my love and passion. With my work, I am offering you the best part of my hands."
