"The contrast between the recently painted Arcos da Lapa and the blue sky caught my eye," confides Mauro Fichman as he shoots the photograph with an admirable use of perspective. Located in the neighborhood of Lapa, these stone arches are a famous landmark of Rio de Janeiro, originally constructed during colonial times to serve as an aqueduct.

Mauro Fichman is a photographer, painter and graphic designer, having studied at the Superior School of Industrial Design. His work is separated from contemporary trends as he follows a more personal path, which reflects an intimacy through capturing the poetry and beauty so often overlooked by the naked eye.

He has always worked with art, and has been a professional photographer since 1982. His lens gracefully controls black and white, while his photos exhibit a predilection for natural scenes, whether portraying ample landscapes or fleeting details. Mesmerizing textures emerge clearly in every image, and some friends and art critics have described his photographs as 'paintings.'
