    'Wat Chang Lom' (2008)

All is peaceful at the beautiful Wat Chang Lom where elephants surround a temple's ancient walls. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the historical park seems to awaken to morning's early light. Phomin Singkwang paints the scene as a symbol of Thai identity. Parrot trees, also known as flame of the forest, bloom gloriously to frame the temple spire.

An artisan story card will be included with your purchase.

"Hello, my name is Phomin or Min. I was born in 6 May 1971. I have five siblings and I am the fourth child in the family. My parents took good care of me and gave me a good education when I was young. We are quite a big family but we love each other very much and we help each other in everything. I feel happy every time I think about my family. My parents work in agriculture, and the people they work with are nice and are always helping each other. My house is in the countryside, and we have a rice field, trees and a river, as well as the beauty of Thai culture and tradition. People here live in harmony with each other. That's why I love nature, and why most of my themes concern natural things.

"When I think back to my childhood I always feel happy. When I was a little boy I painted everything that I could think of. It wasn't good, but I was practicing for the future, though at the time I wasn't aware of it. I realized how much I really loved art when I was accepted at Chiang Mai University, in the Fine Art Faculty.

"My work is a combination of East and West, because I use Western techniques to paint Eastern themes. Since I graduated from University in 1996, I have been spending all of my time painting, and I have had several opportunities to exhibit my work throughout Thailand.

"My art work is related to Thai culture and tradition. I like to paint about everything there is to know about Thailand. On my free time I like to teach kids in my village to paint. I teach them how to create art from their feelings and be happy with it. All of my students love it.

"I live my life with happiness and stay connected with the realities of life, which makes me and people around me happy. I enjoy doing what I love, and I really love painting. People around me always encourage and support me.

"The biggest challenge I have had to face was when I started university, it was so hard and there were lots of difficult assignments I had never done before. I thought I wouldn't be able to make it and that I wouldn't graduate, but finally I tried my best and I graduated. The most impressive thing I have done was mounting my first solo exhibit at the Chiang Mai University Art Gallery, when I was a student there.

"My work is easy to understand. I paint about orchids (Dendrobium lineleyi Steud) because many houses in Thailand have this kind of orchid. It's a beautiful flower. I am fascinated by the way such a lovely flower has become an integral part in the lives of Thai people.

"I would like to work in art for the rest of my life. I think Novica is a good company that supports and gives an opportunity to artists. I believe that art is beautiful by nature, and my work is a part of the nature."
