Noppadon Subdeng

"Where I come from, basket weaving is a regular activity but the products are not really appreciated as people consider them to be a common, everyday item. Therefore, I decided to use baskets instead of acanvas to paint and develop my art. That way, I'm also giving a new, modern image to something regarded as ordinary. And I'm also helping to perpetuate our handicraft traditions.

"I was born on September 19, 1982 in Bangkok. I have enjoyed art ever since I was a child. I liked to draw so much that my parents supported my desire to seriously study art. Art makes me feel lively and cheerful.

"In college, I majored in fine art. It was such a great environment. It offered me the opportunity to realize my dream while I learned more about such an interesting subject.

"I like to paint on unusual materials and on different surfaces. My inspiration comes from the environment, which is important and beautiful. The world around us is nature's work of art.

"Today I feel that what I am doing is useful to many, so it makes me feel good. One of my goals in life is to keep trying my best at everything I do, that's why I feel happy and proud when people appreciate my designs."
