Silver choker, 'Playful Nazca Monkey'

With its curling tail forming a spiral, the Nazca monkey appears in polished silver. The mysterious figures were created some 2,000 years ago on the Nazca Plain. Probably the best-known examples of geoglyphs in the world, the figures can be seen in their entirety only from the air. Zoila Hidalgo depicts the famous design as a charming pendant on a sterling silver chain.

Zoila Hidalgo

Born in Lima on November 5, 1967, Zoila Hidalgo studied computing before turning to jewelry-making. She completed courses in basic and specialized silver work over a period of two years. Hidalgo has worked in this field since she was very young, influenced by her father Fiol, an expert silversmith and a Novica featured artist.

"The desire to make jewelry just springs up inside me," she says. "This is my way of life and I have always enjoyed it." Hidalgo expresses her desires and aspirations in each one of her designs. Simple and elegant, they combine natural elements like silver and gemstones. Her designs are based on irregular line and colorful stones such as chrysocolla, serpentine, lapis lazuli and tiger's eye.
