"I like the simpler life here in Bali, and I like to design simple but elegant things. I love flowers and candles, their colors and scents."
Wayan PJ was born in the village of Tabanan to a family where art was part of everyday life. His father was a professional dancer of traditional Balinese dance, and his grandfather was a musician. Wayan inherited the love for traditional dancing from his father and also became a professional. This gave him the opportunity to travel around the world with his dance group.
Later, Wayan lived in Amsterdam working as a professional Balinese dancer, but also for a diamond company, which put him in contact with the design world. For several years, he worked as a freelance designer for several companies in Singapore, Korea and the U.S.A. But in 1996, he decided to return to his beloved Bali and establish himself as an independent designer. In 1999, he got married and now has three children.
"I like the simpler life here in Bali, and I like to design simple but elegant things. I love flowers and candles, their colors and scents. This is why I usually design things that have to do with candles or flowers," he says.
