Eva Asantewa Amakye faithfully replicates the artistry of the Yaure people from Ivory Coast for the impressive design of this mask. Crowned with two birds looking down, the wall mask is carved by hand of seasoned sese wood and painted red and brown. The mask is finished with clay to achieve an aged appearance.
The masks of the Yaure represent human faces often supplemented by animal attributes. According to Yohure customs, the masks are believed to represent yu spirits who restore wellbeing and social balance after a bereavement.
