Ghana Expressionist Fruit Merchant Portrait Painting, "Sweet Business"

Working in clear colors, Ghana's Joseph Kobina Prah depicts a merchant woman carrying a tray of watermelon on her head. Red droplets in the air suggest the burst of flavor in the ripe fruit. "This reminds me of the attention this woman drew to herself by saying 'sweet watermelon!' She made me realize how sweet some businesses can be," the artist recalls.
