Original African Art, "Concerned Woman II"

"A concerned woman is a woman of substance who always stands out among women," says Esther Yaa Alofe as she paints the abstract portrait of woman carrying a basin filled with food on her head. In many African communities, the term "woman of substance" applies to women who are concerned for their loved ones' well-being and will go to great lengths to make sure their basic needs are covered. As such, they are considered to bring hope and dignity to the family.
