Abstract Acrylic Painting, "Concerned Woman I"

Esther Yaa Alofe celebrates "women of substance" through her art. In many African communities, the term woman of substance applies to women who are concerned for their loved ones' well-being and will go to great lengths to make sure their basic needs are covered. As such, they are considered to bring hope and dignity to the family. "A concerned woman is a woman of substance who always stands out among women," says Alofe as she paints the abstract portrait of a woman carrying water on her head in a calabash.
