"I take reminiscences, and color the images of my memory so that they remain with indelible clarity."

"I must say that I inherited my artistic abilities from my family. When I was an adolescent I followed my father's teachings, for he too was an artist."

Born in Cuzco in 1969, Edgar Aguirre studied at the Cuzco School of Art as well as at the Higher College of Fine Arts in Lima. Edgar's extraordinary work in the style of the Cuzco School has earned him great praise, as have his other works of Andean life. He has experimented with painting on glass, creating charming scenes that portray the dwellers of the high Andean mountains as they go about their everyday tasks.

"I am inspired by the Andean themes, the world I know and in which I have lived. I recreate scenes of the everyday life of my people and my town. I take memories and reminiscences, and color the images of my memory so that they stay with indelible clarity. Through my art I hope to capture and bear witness to the Andean customs and events.

"I am also inspired by all that is spiritual. We mustn't forget that both the symbols of the Christian faith (Cuzco School of Painting) and elves (creative paintings) are in essence spirits. The first celestial, the second mischievous. In January of 2004 I completed a course and obtained a degree in Spiritualism Through Art.

"I use oil on canvas as well as watercolor on Bristol board. When I paint on glass I use latex based paints. I use many different kinds of brushes, spatulas, and also wood among many other materials and tools. I have shown my work in many collective exhibitions at the city's National Museum of the Nation. I am not attracted to fairs, and have participated in very few competitions. My goals and aspirations are to become known and appreciated abroad, and I thank Novica for the chance they are offering us."

Surrounded by beautiful, moving depictions of the Virgin, of the angels and of the archangels, Edgar Aguirre's work comes alive in a stunning festive polychromy.
