Daniel Nyadedzor "We proudly exhibit our carvings in Ghana. Our customers especially love our antique finishing, and their kind remarks and comments spur us on to do better." Daniel Nyadedzor has been featured in the San Antonio Express News. "I was born in May, 1972 in the eastern region of Ghana. In 1996, after finishing school and a year's national service, I decided to help my brother who was a carver and had his own shop. I did all his paperwork. "Initially, the work done did not measure up to internationally accepted standards. Quality control was poor. However, after working with him for a few months I realized the need to incorporate certain measures. After tasking ourselves to reach the international standards, the business grew tremendously. We have been working together all these years. "We acquire a type of hardwood known as sese for carving the masks. Other materials we use are potassium, emulsion red or black paint, metal plate and sometimes clay. There are about twenty people working with us. The nature of our work involves the chipping of wood to get a desired figure or shape. It is polished and sandpapered for a smooth and quality object. Red and black emulsion paint is then used for the finishing. The image is first sketched on paper and then given to the apprentices to carve. Sometimes, our customers also come up with interesting ideas, too. "Our products are always given the antique finishing. Our customers especially love our antique finishing and their kind remarks and comments spur us on to do better." |

I have the Zomukyi mask, Wise & Prudent, and the My Child masks, and I love them very dearly. My family loves them also. When you look at his masks, you can sense the love, time and effort that he puts into his craftmanship. His masks are very detailed and defined. I love his work, and will continue to purchase his art. Truly blessed. - Cheryl Davis, St. Louis, MO USA Hello, I would just like to say personally this carving, 'Blessing', means more then it could ever possibly mean in a gallery, this has significant meaning because my daughter is half Ghanaian and she is my blessing. Her Father is in Ghana right now and I plan to visit there in January, I love the workmanship and the time that has gone into this carving. Please keep making beautiful pieces of art as I will most definitely continue to buy, I want to let my daughter see where she comes from and what the meaning to be Ghanaian comes from. Thank you Daniel, this art will be hung ever so proudly in my home along with many others I intend to buy.....thank you, your work is very appreciated - Lindsay Brennan, London, Ontario, Canada |
