Gavino Aguirre "Ever since my youth I have been working with textile art, applying painting to fabric with Incan allegories." Gavino Aguirre Segovia is a textile artisan and painter born in 1932 in Apurimac, located in the Southern region of Peru. He dedicates himself to textile art, painting on fabric in a foliage of colors, expressing the most beautiful images of the Andes, and portraying its customs. His artistic activity was transmitted to him from his ancestors, however he has perfected his art specializing exclusively in working with looms. "Ever since my youth I have been working with textile art, applying painting to fabric with Incan allegories. All my apprentice work came through hands-on practice. My most representative creations are imbued with Andean themes and daily life. My raw materials include the fabric, painting, glue, canvas stretchers, and brushes - with which I give concrete form to what I conceive of in my imagination. Of course, as does all art, mine carries a message. I transmit all that is Peruvian, and above all, hope. "I have exhibited my work in specialized fairs in the city of Cuzco. In 1974 I received the 'Gold Medal' prize for the merits of my artistic work. I am confident that with Novica, my work will be known abroad because it not only represents a feeling but also a cultural expression." Aguirre's beautifully decorated looms produce the effect of a captured rainbow. Each one of his pieces reminds us of the landscapes and places of our highlands whose names will not be forgotten due to his work. Recently, he has also become highly focused on traditional canvases. |

I HAVE WAITED A LONG TIME TO HAVE THE MONEY TO PURCHASE THIS ITEM. IT IS PERFECT. I LOVE THIS PAINTING. IN OUR COUNTRY WE SAY "DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER" OR DON'T SHOOT THE PERSON WHO GIVES YOU THE WORD (GOOD OR BAD) FOR THE DAY. I HOPE HE PROTECTS ME. I GIVE PEOPLE THE WORD DAILY IN MY WORK, IT IS WHAT DO FOR A LIVING. SO THIS PICTURE IS NEXT TO ME ALL DAY LONG. I LOVE THIS AND AM SO GLAD I FOUND YOU ALL THIS TIME LATER AND THE PICTURE WAS STILL AVAILABLE. THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN. KIND REGARDS RACHEL CRONIN - RACHEL C, OFALLON MISSOURI USA I have been a Novica customer for years. The quality of products and service are unsurpassed. I especially love my three paintings by Gavino Aguirre. Each one offers a whimisical view of Andean culture with a delightful use of color and detail. These paintings evoke the essence of life. I will faithfully support NOVICA and all the talented artists involved. L. Cohen - L. Cohen, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Gavino Aquirre's rich canvas tapestry of ancient Inca agriculture, "Distracted Princesses" arrived today to my great delight. I love his choice of earth colored oils, burnt sienna and purple madder, among others. A great piece of folk art that's truly original! - Robin W I received my painting yesterday, and I am so pleased that I will be watching Mr. Aguirre's new arrivals for a chance to buy another. I was somewhat uneasy about buying a painting over the internet, but the original is exactly as it appeared on the web site. I particularly appreciated the small pin and bow which adorned the package--a very thoughtful and charming touch. Thank you to both Novica and Mr. Aguirre. - Pat B, Houston, TX USA The colors and the theme in the painting by Gavino Aguirre bring a mystical touch to my home every day. It was love at first site, and every day I'm thankful to have this piece of art. I'd been looking in galleries but could never afford anything , let alone a piece that I love more every day... - Barbara W, Milwaukee, WI USA |
