Amphon

"Sawasdee krup, I’m Amphon born in 1964--the year of the dragon. With a degree in Computer Science and an MBA in Finance, I landed me a job in a finance company and a local bank which eventually I realized was not right for me. A room full of design magazines led me to the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, which ignited my indigenous sense of design. I discovered in myself a profound love for design and handmade jewelry, be it silver or leather, just to name a few.

"One night I was strolling in downtown of Bangkok when I spotted a couple selling leather cel phone cases on the pavement. They caught my attention. I sat down and started to make conversation. The man is called Khun Songkran and his wife is called Nid. They are from Chiang Rai, and have two kids. I asked Khun Songkran if he would be willing to carry out my unrealized dream of making leather bracelets. He said he would try. So, with a couple of visits to his house, I started with simple designs and Khun Songkran was quick to learn how to make the bracelets since he had graduated from art school.

"I began to give him more elaborate designs. We quickly got used to each others way of working until eventually we became a team. I come up with ideas and he and his wife make them. Since then we have been making bracelets for men and women.

"I get my inspiration from architecture and nature. Combining materials is also part of my specialty, like metals with leather for instance. Thai fabric weaving also inspires me to create my macramé bracelets. As I was born in the year of the dragon, the dragon motifs are also my great interest."
