"Hello, I'm Fátima Rodríguez Serra. I was born in Lima to a family of self-taught artists. I'd describe my work as an art that I create neatly and meticulously. I've dedicated myself to this since 1968 and find motivation in the tracing of lines in symmetry. My intention is to transmit varied and distinct designs that are harmonious and show chromatic differences.
"My greatest challenge in life was between 1974 and 1978 when I was working full time in a bank and going to school. I graduated with a degree in economy from the Universidad Ricardo Palma in Lima, taking my classes at night. It was difficult but, thanks to my sacrifice, I was able to achieve my goal.
"Today I'm a university graduate and a professor in administration at the Universidad ESAN of Lima. In both my careers, I perfected my studies of mathematics, especially in the laying out of lines along a Cartesian axis and the fundamentals of optic geometry, which is the basis of op art. These are theories set out by Rene Descartes (1596-1650), and this gave me the idea of symmetry and equilibrium in my paintings.
"The beauty of optical art is that the paintings can divert your gaze in every possible direction."
