Dewa Sutapa

"Hi, I'm Dewa Sutapa and I was born on August 22, 1966. My family and relatives all work as silver- and goldsmiths. My grandfather was a renowned jeweler back in his time.

"In 1990, I graduated from Gajah Mada (UGM) University, majoring in Economics and Accounting, alomn with a one year diploma course in Japanese. I worked as a lecturer at one of the universities in Denpasar for almost five years, and then continued to work as a travel agent and guide for Japanese tourists.

"I believe it was my grandfather's name and spirit that called on me to return to my roots as a jeweler. I worked with a French designer for several years, and this experience has influenced my work, which combines Balinese and Western styles. Most of my work features gold, silver and ebony."
