Joel Roger Espinoza Chamorro was born in the beautiful province of Tarma. At the age of five, together with his brother Chamo [a Novica-featured artist], he began following his father around as he'd weave tapestries. Both boys helped their father choose color combinations, and Joel became fascinated with art.
"My artistic inclination is a family legacy," he says. "I studied fine arts in a regional college. I'd describe my work as figurative and realistic, and I worked hard to perfect my studies of the human body. For me, painting is a way of expressing my feelings as well as transmitting our religious faith, something we are losing these days. I'd say my greatest challenge has been to succeed in this difficult world of art.
"I hope Novica shoppers appreciate my work, as it is essentially Peruvian. It expresses much religious and cultural sentiment."
Espinoza has worked full time as a painter since 1995 and participated in many exhibits. The positive feedback he has received is another source of inspiration for this talented artist.
