About this Artist
"Hello, I'm Albert Ickenroth. I was born in the Netherlands where I studied economics as well as art appreciation. I've always loved the great masters like Van Gogh and Rembrandt. In 1976 I took a vacation trip to Mexico and fell in love with the people, the music, plant life, wildlife and folklore of this beautiful country. And so I stayed."As fate would have it, I found work as a designer in a world-renowned papier maché workshop. There I taught techniques and procedures unknown in Mexico and developed new styles. After a few years, I opened my own workshop where I began to experiment with new designs in papier maché as well as in gold and silver jewelry. In some cases, the jewelry includes papier maché.
"My designs are always related to the fauna of this magical country. They have been used to decorate international restaurant chains, and some of my works have appeared in advertising spots for major credit cards. I always sign each piece so the buyer can be assured that this is my work.
"To create a piece of jewelry, I begin by sculpting the design in clay. From this, I make a model in wax and cast a plaster mold. Then I cast a second piece in wax, carefully adding the small details by hand. I use the lost wax process in my works, crafting the jewelry in silver. To apply gold, I first treat the silver with enamel in the areas that will retain their original color, then I electroplate the piece with 22k gold. Finally, I clean and polish it.

I was fascinated with the Rain Frog Dreams necklace, which was not immediately available so I signed up to be notified when it was. It is beautiful - even better than in the fine photograph. The design is unusual and the necklace is beautifully made, down to the perfect chain for the ornament. I am delighted!

Bought the 'Treasures of the Sea' bracelet & matching earrings - they arrived today & are very lovely. The design is dainty but not so tiny as to disappear. Note to ladies with very large wrists - the bracelet won't fit if your wrist measurement is over 6 1/2 inches - it fits my wrist but would not fit my sisters wrists. The only way it would fit is to get an extender attachment if you have a very large wrist. I like it fitting fairly closely however so the sizing is not a drawback for me. The earrings will of course fit anyone & they will become a favorite of mine.

I have just purchased "Rain Frog Dreams" for myself and "Rain Frog Pendant" for my daughter for her birthday. They arrived today and are absolutely beautiful. Mr. Ickenroth, your papier mache 'Ocelot Dreaming' came today and I just love him. The personality of the animal comes through so beautifully and with the detail, you must have used a microscope to paint it! I felt such joy on seeing it.

I just received a most beautiful piece for our foster son's room. It is the frog on the ball and the colors are vibrant and his expression delightful. The room is Frog Prince and the muralist painted a fun, playful wall and this wonderful sculpture goes so well sitting on the bookcase where our Angel can watch and talk to it.
