"My name is Steven Boakyi, and I was born on June 1, 1967. After finishing middle school in 1981, I joined my grandfather in his workshop where I received training in brass work and drum making.

"I should say my work is a hobby that I have developed. I'm very excited when I see those who trained under me doing well. Sometimes it is sad, as when there is no market. Nevertheless I'm very determined and will not give up with my trade.

"I'm now working on my own. I set up my own workshop, but still collaborate with my grandfather. I later started a joint venture with my best friend, Isaac Dampson.

"Dampson was born on May 24, 1975. He attended the National Vocational Training Institute where he concentrated on metal work and handicrafts. He polished his skill for two years with a master carver, then worked with the well known Eric Ampofo for another two years. Dampson likes his job very much because he uses his hands and ideas to create figures that always put a smile on people's faces, and this means a lot to him.

"We have participated in exhibitions since 2000, including the Ghafat Fair at Cape Coast."
