"I am a self-taught painter, impassioned by nature and primitive art. For many years I painted only as hobby while I worked in the art department of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. I developed my own modern style to represent tropical themes such as Brazilian birds and other animals of the Atlantic forest.
"Through my painting I want to awaken love and respect for nature in others. This awareness is urgent - we cannot wait any longer to recover the planet if the aggressions against the environment continue at their current pace.
"My predilection for birds is an old one. I grew up in houses with ample wooded yards that were always visited by the most varied and colorful birds. Over the years, the city of Rio de Janeiro has suffered a reduction in the number and the variety of its birds, but it is still possible to be surprised by the sudden flight of toucans and
maritacas in such green oases as the Botanical Garden and the Forest of Tijuca National Park.
"Through Novica I believe it is possible to reach a great number of people and sensitize them through my paintings."
