"Painting for me is like a miracle. After many years as an antiques dealer and facing many challenges, I asked God for something no one would ever be able to take away from me. Soon after, in 1992, I began to paint. I admit that painting is a commitment; it is important for me to have something to say through my art. I studied social sciences and I spent all my life fighting for humanitarian causes. Maybe this is the reason why the feminine figure is always present in my work. In general, everything I depict has touched my soul.
"Throughout the years I've exhibited my work in renown galleries as well as the Japanese consulate, Rio de Janeiro's Municipal Chamber and the Monte Libano Club. I've also participated in collective exhibitions, like the homage to Frida Kahlo.
"The art of painting has already been delegated to various masters with unique styles who were criticized in their own times. They died poor, depressed and crazy. Now they are dead millionaires whose works adorn magnificent settings. The expressionist masters broke the artistic barriers with their works filled with frenzy and with messages of pain, compassion and love. Giants such as Edward Munch, Van Gogh, Chaim Sontine, George Rouault, Kirchner, and Egon Shiele amongst others are unique characters in a lyrical performance filled with colors and jubilation.
"To exhibit my work and live with my soul on the line is to exteriorize all of my internal conflicts, my questionings and my thoughts. It means to be satisfied with curious eyes that land on a piece of work, at least intriguing. My work is a warm vision that blends Arab, Portuguese, and indigenous lands. This is who I am, without schools or groups. Just simply, Cláudia de Farhat."
