About this Artist
"I am Balinese born and was named Nyoman Naranata by my parents in the traditional baby ceremony in 1970. When I was just an elementary student, the art of woodcarving was imprinted on my everyday life. Handicrafts are becoming the main wage earner in my village. As time passes and I get older, my experiences have led me to concentrate on carved masks. I learned to design from my father; this craft is taught and learned from generation to generation."The material I commonly used is hibiscus wood. It has good characteristics and it isn't too heavy. I look forward to having cooperation and partnership with Novica, which helps artists in marketing around the globe."
The mask I received called 'Jungle Princess' is absolutely beautiful, and is gracing my wall....thank you so much for the wonderful craftsmanship....I will treasure it always. I am now collecting masks!!

The Wood Mask "Thoughts of my Baby" is truly beautiful. The blonde Hibiscus wood is gorgeous. It has shades of grey with the blonde that really gives the illusion of dreamtime. We were so excited about winning the mask & even more excited when we saw the actual piece of artwork; the lines and shaping of the wood were much better than anticipated, including your carved signature. I purchsed the Cheeky Monkey mask and love it. The definition and features look so realistic it looks like it was moulded off of a monkey's face. How Nyoman ever got a monkey to sit still that long amazes me, hahaha. A beautifully finished, super smooth mask with excellent definition and curvature. It even has an elastic attached to the back if you want to put it on. Shipping was extreemly fast.
