"My work with glass is more recent than my work in ceramics. I used to make extremely minute impressionist paintings. I love painting on porcelain and glass more so than painting on canvas. Whereas an artist adds colors and tints on top of a canvas, here it is necessary to take away to create these works - it is a subtle difference.
"I began to work with porcelain after getting married. Although I wasn't earning money through my porcelain work, I continued doing it because it gave me much joy. I became impassioned with glasswork at an exhibition of the artist Cida Abreu. Encouraged by a friend, I decided to learn the technique and since then I have experimented with the possibilities of glass - the combinations of form and color. As it is an artisanal and domestic process, each piece is always a surprise. The images I design come from nature; I like sinuous forms.
"I am please to say my work has found an appreciative audience and now my daughter has joined me in this venture! I hope that through Novica my work can travel the world and that I my products are well-liked. I hope I never have to sacrifice my creative freedom to suit others' opinions – this happens to many artists hoping to make their work more viable."
