Born in Lima on May 8, 1968, artist Robert Torre Malpartida talks about his life and art.
"From an early age I liked to draw. My painting has always been a pretext, because it's a way to transmit my feelings through color. I enjoy traveling to every corner of Peru, rescuing those forgotten places, to capture their enchantment in the memory through my paintings.
"I studied advertising art and this helped me to realize how much painting means to me, and to reinforce my decision to live mixing oils and highlighting the beauty of every color. My paintings are colors that motivate, that bring happiness. What I do is bring people the pleasure of having something that brings life – not something that remains all alone on the wall in the corner, but something that expresses the feeling of reality.
"I value what I do and transmit an emotional force through color. They are combinations that surface in the moment. Forgetting everything else, I introduce things into the landscape that aren't always real, in the harmony of what I'm doing and depicting.
"When I'm working, I integrate realities, express them directly. They are my own ideas that are born each time I stand in front of the easel. All I do is glide the brush across the canvas and, when I'm done, the pleasure of what I've created remains.
"I think the greatest challenge in my life has been to get ahead, looking for my material to be able to do what I love so much – to paint. My paintings are epochs from my life. They are real experiences I transmit in colors that enclose my emotions."
The artist graduated from the School of Fine Arts in 1995.
